Is it an anti-depressant? If so could it be taken for depression and binge eating?

Yes, it is the newest anti-depressant on the U.S. market. It is an SSRI.

I think you may have better luck with Topamax for binge eating....................
I lost 25 LBS on it the first 2 months. I started Lexapro about 10 days ago, so far so good.....well......... some side effects.

I think you will be fine. Your appetite will probably come back soon. Lexapro usually does not cause long term weight loss or gain.

I started 10 mg of lexapro the end of May. I also lost my appetite when i started it and lost 12lbs. i had absolutely no desire to eat - it was really strange and alittle unsettling. i just want to tell you that your appetite slowly will return to normal. i mentioned this to my GP when i went for my visit and she said that this was a normal occurence . i don't think this happens to everyone (from what i read in these posts) but you are not alone. I'm happy with lexapro which i'm taking for anxiety and depression so try and hang in there - good luck - kinsey.

I lost 10 pounds on Lex, also experienced the lack of appetite. Have been on Lex for going on 6 mos. and have not gained 10lbs. back (was glad to see them go!) Appetite is pretty much back to normal.
