Dear all,
I have been very shy since I was a child. Now 28. 2 months ago, I started taking Prozac. It was very effective for me for the 1st week -- no depression, stronger, no shyness... However, the effect gone after the 1st week treatment. After that I feel tired whole day long. I had stopped the Prozac. I have been on Adrafinil for few days now. Do anyone have any ideas on whether Adrafinil or Wellbutrin can deal with shyness, like Prozac does? Shyness has long been a big trouble to me.
Also, I am working on the books by Dr David Burns - Ten days to self-esteem. I hope it can help me on my distorted personality. Anyone got help from his books?

i've found that no drug can really cure issues like self esteem and shyness. the only thing the drug can do is mask the problem but it doesn't cure it. i found reading was a huge benefit for me and working with the right therapist. have you heard of cognitive behavioural therapy....it involves realising the way you perceive information about yourself and your interactions with others and finding ways to change it. i found with my self esteem issues i really had to discover the fundamental thoughts i had about myself ...why i felt like this in the first place ...where these thoughts stemmed from. after this i learnt through an excellent caring therapist ways to change my perception about myself. it was extremely intense and a lot of hard gradual work but 3 years later i can notice massive changes in my personality in a positive aspect. i still feel that i have heaps of work to do and it requires a lot of energy but taking effexor xr has not helped me change the way i think about myself. all it does is allow you to feel happy and to function but ultimately that won't help you. its the same as drinking or smoking to help "cope". if you ignore the real issues then you'll become dependent on the drugs .

Thank u very much for ur advice.
I've heard about cognitive behavioural therapy. I think I will first work on the books by Dr David Burns. Later, I hope I can try to join some therapy group.
