Those of you on effexor, what dose did you start at, how long did you stay on it before going up, what did you go up to, etc. I want to start on it but hear lots about its potency and the importance of going relly slowly. I want to go into the doc's office with an idea in case she is not as careful.

Started 75mg then went to 150mg, next 225mg and am now at 300mg. All of this in less than 4 months.

I started at 37.5 (never had another panic attack after 2 days @ 37.5), went up to 75, then 150, then 225, 300, 337.5, and was at one point at 375 mg; my doc knew I was at 375 mg too. I started taking effexor xr in january of 2002 and found the maximum efficacy at 300 mg which is where I have been for a year. I didn't think the benefits were immediate with effexor xr after 75 mg, things just seemed to improve gradually and slowly over days. I do recall getting 'brain shivers' when I increased. I have talked to numerous people who have experienced brain shivers with Effexor XR increase. I experienced them about 7 times while increasing and never again have. As a side note, a chiropractor who I'm friends with took effexor briefly after his divorce and said once he stopped taking it he would see sudden flashes of white light occasionally while withdrawaling.

The thing is with effexor is to go like this (info on the manifacturer website)
