I hope I am not double posting if I am please disregard this post.
I would like to know how long to wait, before eating and after eating to take Adderall.
I have read that food can delay adderall kicking in for a couple hours and also lower how strong it kicks in.
Thanks

REPLY: My son has been on Adderall a couple of times. He has always taken it with food at breakfast and it seems to kick in within a hour, sometimes within a half hour. My doctor has never told us specifically to take the medication before eating.
Most of the time it is recommended to take medication with food or milk because with many people pills are hard on the stomach. Yet my husband seems to be able to take medicaion anytime he wants without even using water to swallow a pill. Everybody is different.
If you can tolerate taking a pill on an empty stomach and it seems to give you better results, then you should do what works for you.

Thanks for your post. I have read that Dr's have kids take after eating because adderall can make them not want to eat.
I am bummed, I ate lunch took my 20ml adderall about 30 min after lunch...its 2 hours later and I am still wanting to fall asleep. I think I ate too big of lunch. It was mostly protein so I don't know why I am ready to lay down and take a nap. :)

Hi:
Do you work or stay home? I know some people will drink a caffienated soda to give them a boost through the afternoon when the drowsiness hits, so they can function through a work day.I don't know how I would handle it if I wasn't a stay at home mom. Everyday after lunch for the past 15 years no matter how much I eat, I feel the drowsiness hit and I have to lay down. I recently began taking Strattera for ADD and it has helped to reduce some of my daytime sleepiness, but only after 6 weeks of the stuff getting into my system. At first I was really tired on the Strattera and then my doctor suggested I take all of my doses in the evening to help me sleep. Once I made the switch to the evening then I started to be more alert during the day and I don't have to nap for as long as I used to nor sleep for as long during the night as I used to. Have you tried Strattera?
How long have you been taking the Adderall? If you just started on it, then maybe with time your body will get used to it and the daytime sleepiness with diminish.

Thanks for your input Lasagne. Normally my afternoon dose of Adderall perks me up pretty good. I have been taking it a long time...I probably need to take a med holiday.
I tried Strattera, it made me very sleepy and very hungry all of the time. After I gained 6 pounds on it in 4 weeks I decided to go off. I was also taking adderall with it.
I will just have to eat a little light at lunch :)
take care
