Lexapro / Cipralex

Posted by Aeia on June 12, 2003, at 5:46:44

Anyone have any experience of starting this medication? I took my first 10mg
tablet yesterday and my anxiety has gone through the roof.. Had to take
today off work and have been taking diazepam. I was wondering if I'd be
better starting on 5mg, although I dont want to wait too long for it to have
an effect. If its only going to be like this for a few days I can cope. I
did try citalopram last year and it had a similar effect. Then I ended up on
Seroxat (Paxil) came off it but have had a relapse. I dont go back on that
one as it was hell withdrawing.

I just wanted to know if anyone has had the same problems with
cipralex/lexapro and if they managed to stick with it..

Andrea

I was an absolute basket case for the first 7 days on Lex, with physical SE's as well. I've added Xanax to get me through until I either acclimate to the drug and/or decide to tell my doc to forget it. I'm trying to give it a chance and not to be a "difficult" patient (which I tend to become almost effortlessly). I tried to take 5mg, but my doc balked at that idea. It's your brain that's being fried (nod to JLM), however, so you'll have to determine your own threshold of what's bearable. FWIW, I didn't notice much change between 5mg and 10mg. On a positive note, I am feeling a bit more even keeled today. At least I'm able to sleep, which is one side effect I've been miraculously spared. Good luck and keep us posted!

Yes, I gave up on citalopram (cipramil)last year after only a few days and ended up on Seroxat (Paxil) instead. At the time this decision seemed much better.. till I tried to come off it. All those horrid withdrawl symptoms.

Depression and anxiety are now back and I dont want to go near Seroxat again. I'm determined to see if the side effects go away. I also have some diazepam to take if I get too anxious. Though I'm almost out of them so might have to get some more.

As with you I do seem to be sleeping. I was sleeping before just waking up feeling horrid every day.
