Is Strattera effective for depression?

Posted by SLS on May 27, 2003, at 7:10:56

I see that lots of people are having success using Strattera (atomoxetine) for ADD/ADHD. Has anyone found it to be effective when treating depression alone?

Thanks in advance.

I started 18 mg of Strattera months ago when it was first released and noticed an immediate improvement in my mood. I felt energized, I could focus, and couldn't believe the effect. I was also taking 50 mg of zoloft at the time. I thought this was finally the answer to my year-long bout with depression until the depression returned 3 weeks later. My doctor then increased my dose of strattera up to 60 mg but this seemed to aggravate the anxiety so I am back down to 18 mg. He added 1200 mg of Trileptal which helps on and off with the depression, depending on where I am in my cycle.

I don't know if I should try a new ssri or snri or increase the trileptal. I am very confused and tired of it all at this point.

You may want to try it as an AD since the effects are noticeable within days. Oh, I remember when I first started that I would expereince early-morning awakening but this stopped after a few weeks. Also, I found that I didn't really miss the sleep.

Keep us posted and good luck.

Nicole
