I'm a retarded, narcoleptic on stattera!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by tanafofana on May 15, 2003, at 16:22:01

I am so sleepy I can hardly work. I just had to lie down on my office floor, put my head on my purse (like a pillow), and nap for 20 minutes. Strattera has also wiped out my vocabulary. I can't converse with anyone and adequately express myself. Very simple words won't come to my mind (and I have a Ph.D.). Has anyone had such a disastrous beginning and go on to success with this drug? When does the sleepiness subside?
Thanks.
T

How much Strattera are you taking? There were some previous threads that recommended starting small and increasing slowly. I've been on it since February (start at 10, increase 10 every 3 days). It didn't make me super sleepy, and I haven't been able to think of simple words since _before_ I started taking it. Sorry I can't help more - the side effects I did have (most notably naseau) did seem to subside with time (except the constipation...). I think there is hope for the future. Check some of the older threads.

Good Luck!

hey,

i'm just posting to sympathize with you. i have a similar response to the med. i have tried it (40 mgs) for 3 days.

i have felt confused and stupid. maybe this is a side effect that intellectuals tend to focus on more. i've also noticed drowsiness and a slightly faster heart rate.

My theory is that maybe isolating norepinephrine this intensely does not work for me. Or, perhaps the 40 mg does is too high, as I do have a slow metabolism. Perhaps you could talk to your dr. about starting at a lower dose?

though, to be honest, an early negative reaction for me usually spells out bad news for that med in general. the bad reaction lasts, never fading. i'll let you know if it _does_ get better for me.

Why are you taking straterra? have you tried any other meds in the past? maybe something else could work instead.
