can someone clearly explain the difference between EFFEXOR XR EFFEXOR XL, Effexor and then prozac. because i am completely confused.i don't want to know about the side effects but what they do. . i understand that XR is Extended Release. But what's XL and what are these prescribed for . I'm just on Effexor and remeron for depression and anxiety, i find effexor makes me agitated and agressive and i have also had severe sleep problems which is what the remeron is for and it works great (although it has made me gain weight). So i was wondering if these are similar to plain effexor do they cut out the agressiveness and agitation so i wouldn't have to take remerom (if only for sleep)? Prozac didn't work for me but i was told it works on different chemical so that is out. Then XR and XL came out and I was wondering do they have more. somehow i came to the conclusion that effexor xr is just like prozac and that plain effexor is completely different working on different chemicals. How do they work? why is extended release better and why wouldn't someone want to take extended release?

There is only an XR, no such thing as XL.
XR means extended release. It is longer lasting
but otherwise no different from Effexor (no XR)
