Currently I am taking 15 mg. remeron, partly for depression and mostly for sleep. It is working quite well, except that, like most people I have some daytime sleepiness. I am also taking wellbutrin 150 mg once a day and although it is helping somewhat, my brain still feels like it is in a bit of a fog. I am contemplating asking my doctor for provigil. Anybody try both of these and have a comparison. I would probably discontinue the wellbutrin and try the remeron at night and the provigil during the day. Thanks for any input.

WB SR made me very anxious and caused a variety of other side effects, including dizziness, shaking, "stuffed-up head" feeling, and so on. I discontinued it after 8 weeks, since the side effects didn't subside, even at fairly low doses.
Provigil made me feel quite alert and energetic, but not anxious. I had no trouble sleeping while on it (WB caused some insomnia). I found it quite a positive drug; I switched to Adderall because the Provigil was prescribed for ADD, and didn't help enough with concentration (although it didn't interfere).

Interdesting trivia:
I read a short piece by Steven Stahl the other day on Provigil and theoretical MOA. Apparently, they think it increases hitamine (a wafeful amine) release in the brain.
Hm. I've never found Provigil pleasant, and it gives me skin rashes. I was wondering if the histamine-factor was a reason.
(Oddly, Vitamine C is a natural anti-histamine; i feel very clear-headed after taking C, even if it seems to shunt all the dex out of my system.)

I take 400 mg Wellbutrin SR per day, and 150 mg Provigil as well. (Xanax as needed for breakthrough anxiety or sleeplessness, which is rare.) So it's possible to do both. Also, you might want to reconsider doing two different med changes at the same time, since it's hard to know which med (or lack thereof) is doing what. Provigil has been a very good drug for me, very helpful as a mood brightener, for concentration, daytime sleepiness and apathy...
best wishes,
Wendy
