Has anyone successfully taken norpramin or desipramine for more than a year or longer? And if so what dosage are you taking.
Thanks

Angel1,
I've been taking desipramine for about 1.5 yrs. (now up to 200 mg/day--I started at 150 mg), and have been doing pretty well on it. I also take ritalin, and a little bit of trazodone to help with sleep. Things aren't entirely wonderful, and I still get stressed out, but I haven't been suicidal in what seems like a really long time (more than 6 months) which is a good thing. Hope it works out for you.

HI lifelike,
Thanks for responding. I am only on 75mg of Norpramin which is somewhat helpful. Maybe I should try a higher dosage. I have also tried Concerta with the Norpramin, but feel more depressed when the Concerta wears off. I just feel like I need something more to get me feeling really good. I am considering an MOAI. Have you ever tried this type of antidepressant? I am very sensitive to meds, hence the lower dosage of norpramin. Are you experiencing any side effects with 200mg? Thanks in advance. ANgel1

Angel1,
I have tried an MAOI, Parnate, for about 6 months. It worked fairly well, but I got too paranoid about the diet restrictions, and was feeling better, so I decided to taper off. Two weeks later, I was suicidal again, so tried the desipramine. It took the 200 mg to get my blood levels up to a "therapeutic dose". As far as SE go, it's mostly dry mouth (I chew A LOT of gum), and some drowsiness, but I switched to taking it at night.
I have had to take fairly high doses of several different AD's to get much of an effect--sounds like you're getting some effect at a lower dose.
I don't really know anything about Concerta. You might want to ask your pdoc about getting a blood level for the Norpramin. Just a suggestion.
