hi all
i have suffered with severe anxiety for 3 years now and have been taking celexa 60mg and buspar.
the problem is, my depression just will not go away whilst celexa has killed my erections and orgasms.
i aam currently working with a new shrink and i have pushed for serzone and remeron together and he has agreed.
i am currently weaning myself off the celexa, down to 20mg and i am up to 600mg of serzone.
i just started 15mg remeron 2 nights ago.my question: has anyone else done this as a way to overcome anxiety and still have a sex life?
i am particularly interested in hearing from acute anxiety sufferers - ie people on high doses of anxiolytic antidepressents.
please do not warn me about the liver danger of serzone. i have attempted suicide numerous times, and dont care what i have to do to get a sex life back. the way i see it, the risk of liver damage is far less of a risk than me topping myself.
so, have you taken remeron and serzone TOGETHER - AT THE SAME TIME?
i would love to hear your experiences, opinions, and thoughts.
any thanks
oscarps - i have tried all the ssri's except luvox and they all completely kill my sexual ability.

Sorry, I can't answer the q you asked... but was wondering if you've considered/tried remeron by itself? I believe it's supposed to have anxiolytic (sp?) properties, and be "sex-friendly."
Just a thought. No need to reply... Good luck with this combo.

Keep Zyprexa in mind.
I've been on Remeron and Serzone. I would not recommend either of these to a friend. It's not that there is anything wrong with them, it's just that we hear many more success stories from other meds, but not that many with these two. Remeron is mostly used as a sleeping agent in combination with other ADs.
Since you've already started Remeron, you might want to just go ahead with your plans and see what happens. But if it does not work out, I think you would be way ahead in the game to put Zyprexa at the top of your list. While Remeron and Serzone both have action on serotonin and norepinephrine, Zyprexa does too, except that Zyprexa also has action in the all important dopamine circuitry. Based on what you described in your post, there is a good likelihood that your depression could be related to the dopamine circuitry. Remeron and Serzone won't do a thing for that.
But there's no telling. These are just my thoughts. Hope something here might be helpful.

Sorry - don't mean to hijack the orig thread, but have a quick Q for JohnL...

John -Just curious regarding your comments above - I thought remeron was often found to be successful in cases that had failed a with a first line AD? Maybe I got that wrong...? (fwiw, I'm taking it now w/(as usual) partial response)

If you haven't already, have you tried a benzodiazepine (Klonopin, Xanax, etc.)? These are often the best meds for anxiety, and generally lack the side effects of the various ADs. Of course, a lot of doctors won't prescribe them for silly reasons, but I'd try this class of drugs before spending a lot of time on ADs, if anxiety is the main problem.

hi,
i understand why you say this, but i have to disgree with you (no offence intended). when my anxiety started it was so bad that i self-prescribed myself xanax and valium - it was over a christmas period and i couldnt get to see a doctor.anyway, long story short, i became VERY addicted to benzos after 2 months. i have never experienced pain like trying to come off benzos with rebound anxiety ontop of my acute anxiety. i tried suicide 2/3 times and was in and out of hospital over a period of 6 months. never again.
i have taken a small amount of valium on a very few occasions, and even 1 tablet gives me rebound anxiety 3-4 days later...
benzo's suck. they are very dangerous.
jsut, to go back to the thread, i am four days into remeron and am coming off citalopram. my sexual functionality has returned nearly 100% - life is wonderful again... ;-)
i just hope this new combo keeps the illness away too. its still to early to tell (4 weeks on serzone (600mg), 4 days of remeron (30mg). still taking 20mg citalopram and will cut this out in the next week.
any more opinions please? i would like to hear from anyone who has tried the serzone/remeron combo together.##
thanks for the posts

thanks for the tip johnl. i have never heard of zyprexa before viewing this board recently (been using this board for a couple of years now, just never took any notice of zyprexa because its not an AD)
anyway, i have a question. i know my problem is due to severe serotonin depletion (i used to abuse ecstacy - years ago :( if i try zyprexa, how will it help my serotonin deficiency? will i have to take zyprexa with another AD, preferably one that does not cause sexual s/effects.
also, does zyprexa affect male sexual function? this is really important to me, because 2 years of ssri's just killed everything sexual!)
thanks for your help
