I've been using ritalin, in conjunction with desipramine for depression for about six months, and have been happier than I've been in about five years (though some intensive therapy was also involved in this). The ritalin gives me added energy, and helped to get rid of a lot of the morning grogginess I was feeling.

I'm like cybercafe - I have depression & ADD, but I also have narcolepsy. Dexedrine by itself would only help my depression for a short while & would be gone when the dose wore off. For me, the most effective combo happens to be Celexa (an SSRI), Dexedrine (for the narcolepsy more than the ADD), & Provigil. The Provigil was originally for the narcolepsy but it was no help. But when I stopped it after a few months, I realised that it was a fantastic mood enhancer. I went back on it. The three meds work in synergy for me.

I find the stimulant Adderall a very good antidepressant (although I take it primarily for ADD). I also take Klonopin, which relieves the depression that results from anxiety (I consider Klonopin my "primary" AD since my worst depression is anxiety-based). Adderall has an additional mood-brightening effect for me, and seems to work synergistically with the Klonopin. Both have been effective for well over a year, with no increases in dosage necessary.
Provigil is definitely worth a try too; I liked its effects (it just didn't help enough with ADD) and my pdoc said he's seen very good results in certain patients, although apparently it's hard to predict who will respond.

What dosage of Dexadrine? I'm taking 5mg twice a day. It has helped me emmensely. I have been severely depressed for years and nothing has helped.
