My trial of Buspar failed, because the SE's were not worth the possible long term help this med might have provided. I could not shake the extreme nausea and light headedness for hours after each dose. After reading everything I could find on it, I came to the conclusion that the dose I could tolerate, would only provide anxiety relief, and I need help with depression, anxiety, OCD, binge eating. I am currently on the mood stabilizer, Neurontin, because of my med sensitivity, it is the only mood stabilizer I could tolerate. These past few days I have turned to a healthier diet, and exercise, and am finding some relief. I am also considering trying some extra natural support, but there is so much contradictory research out there, with not much in the way of scientific, controlled studies to back much of the claims made. I am already taking fish oil equating to 900 mg EPA and 600 mg DHA, a slow releasing mag tab, and Vit C, E, calcium w/D and a multi. I have started eating dark chocolate every day as well for its LP, but it also causes a mild headache. I have already tried Sam-e, and SJW and found them totally lacking. The dark chocolate did more for me than either of those substances. Is there anything safe and well studied that could be added to my regimen?

I would consider Prozac and/or Topamax added to your Neurontin.

Hi Disney.. A LOW, LOW Dose of Celexa would be what I would add, Its just what the doctor ordered. Great better.

disney4:
I am really sorry to hear that your Buspar trial did not work out. I too experienced the dizziness and nausea and headache (seemingly for hours after dose) when I took Buspar alone. The only way I ever circumvented these start-up symptoms was by taking a ludicrously LOW doseage (I mean cutting 5 mg pills into quarters and taking 2 per day at first), and gradually moving up the dose over a month. But as you said, it could take you quite awhile to hit an anti-depressant dose.
I agree with missinglynxx that a "LOW LOW" dose of an ssri like Celexa will probably bring you some relief if you take the very slow approach (I am thinking sub-therapeutic doses and pill-cutters, not listening to those who may laugh at your little start-up dose). ssris are not the end-all, but they are multi-faceted depression fighters.
One word of advice, however: you mention you are taking a number of supplements, including vits C and E. I have found that taking anti-oxidants (such as C or E and here I would include Selenium as well) while taking Buspar and/or ssris potentiates the effects of the meds and >definitely< increases anxiety/ dizziness/ nausea. Even though I know these are really important vitamins, I typically remove them from my supplement intake when I am tinkering with meds.
Best of luck with your search,
jflange

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried Celexa in the past, but I only lasted through one dose, because my eye started twitching about one hour after dosing, and I was scared off. I am considering Remeron, even though I think it might hurt my eating disorder. I think in the long run, it may provide more than support. I know there weren't many positive posts on this site, but I think that may be because it is a misunderstood med, and many people used a small dose as an add on. They are now saying that anything less than 30 mg may only cause side effects with no AD action.
This is the end of the thread.
