I have been taking .25mg of Klonopin at night for about 1 year, to help with sleep and anxiety. Several nights ago I decided to try to take .125mg ( 1/4 of a .5mg tab ) instead and see if I can eventually taper entirely. Well the last several nights my sleep has been very restless and I have been awakening earlier than usual feeling very tired. Today on about day 3 or 4 I also feel jittery and shaky, dizzy, bad headache, nausea, weak, lethargic and very cold. Could this be withdrawl from such a small dose and small dose change or is it more likely that I am coming down with something?? It doesn't feel like the flu although the symptoms are similar. Also if i decide to ride it out how long do these symptoms typically last? Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help>

Yes, your sleep can be severely disrupted when you cut back on clonazepam. I, too, have flu symptoms when my sleep is poor. I suspect I'll be on clon for the rest of my life...my shrink certainly thinks so. You could try a small dose of Remeron as a replacement for the clonazepam, and then, after a couple of weeks, wean yourself off that. You have to go several weeks med-free for your natural sleep architecture to reestablish itself. It's pure hell if you suffer from an anxiety disorder. Insomnia and anxiety often go hand in hand.
