Raise your hand if Dilantin worked on your anxiety

Posted by utopizen on December 11, 2002, at 21:58:09

Yo Jack,

Is there a single person on the 'net who actually became less anxious from taking Dilantin? Really? 'Cause I'd like to find them.

One person on this board said she did, but a rash made her stop it (note- this is in 3% of the population, and is reversible by simply stopping the drug).

I've searched news groups and everything. And unfortunately, I can't see a single study that mentions that it was a double-blind controlled. My p-doc said to ignore anything that didn't specify that, which means every single one of the studies Jack Dreyfus points to....

A difficult one utopizen, you either have to beleive that Jack Dreyfuss suffers from a very strong case of Dilantomania ( an overwheliming love for and need to promote Dilantin )or there is something in what he says.
I find it sad that he widens his claims to depression and anxiety generally when his book does seem to suggest strongly that an overactive mind seems to respond best to Dilantin, if this was someones major symptom I think Dilantin would be well worth a try.
As far as your doc goes he is right in saying that a double blind placebo is the ultimate test for any substance but I'm afraid there are factors which seem to make it difficult for sustances which are not open to profit taking to be tested, and I find lots of Docs swallow whole what they are told either by drug companies
or their training, just think about how long it took before metronizadole became a first line treatment for ulcers for example.
At the end of the day you just have to try it and see, Dreyfus himself suggests a 1 hour test will suffice.
A bit less tiresome than weeks and weeks on some ssri!

Dilantin is an anti-seizure medication.
Does it work for Bi-polar II as well as some of the other drugs from that class of meds?
