Lately, my ADHD symptoms have gotten a lot worse -- or maybe I'm just admitting that they're a problem. (At 27, have trouble getting homework done, getting chores done, etc., despite having plenty of energy.)
Has anyone tried treating ADHD with the Feingold diet or anything like it?
Just wondering, already on 3 meds -- 1 thyroid drug, 1 brain drug (zoloft), and 1 migraine med. Don't really want to add more.

Hi bookgurl99I have recently been doing my own research into diets to assist with ADHD including looking at the Feingold diet. From my research, the Feingold diet is a step in the right direction for treating ADHD symptoms but does not go far enough in some respects and therefore has a hit and miss success rate.
I have recently read a book by an Australian Author named Sue Dengate called "Fed Up". This book is available through Barnes and Noble I think but just follow the links at the link I have provided for you below. The book explains in simple to understand layman terms the benefits of what she terms an "elimination diet". She praises the Feingold diet as the pioneering diet in this developing field but develops these ideas further using more recent research. The basic principle is to eliminate certain foods that contain chemicals and additives (particularly salicylates and amines) and by eating only what she terms "Failsafe Foods". She gives very good information on how to follow the diet without getting too technical about it but she does give an extensive bibliography for those that want to get more heavily into the science and research that backs up her claims.
Basically the diet she recommends was actually developed by some highly esteemed and forward thinking doctors at the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA)Hospital Allergy Unit in Australia. The RPA is one of the best hospials in Australia.
Sue Dengate also has a pretty good website that can point you in the right directions if you want to research this matter any further. The link to the site is as follows:-

Here is another link to a food list based on very similar principles

That guy was silly. If there's ever been a "natural" remedy to ADD, and I say remedy in a loose way, having intercourse or self gratification is the most effective means. I'm trying to write a paper write now, and I just can't, it's impossible. And it's not because I'm thinking about sex, but because my brain is dumb when I have tension of this sort.
Suddenly after having such tension released, I am smart again, can concentrate better than before, and so forth. I'm on Adderall 20mg now, so compensating meds for my lack of intercourse is not helping. So the combination of intercourse and meds is necessary in my treatment... does this mean my insurance will pay for... oh, nevermind, I'll get in trouble for saying that I guess.

Hi I have been told by several clients that
have sex/lovemaking did help them refocus to
the challenges that they were facing at the time. But the big question is: Would it be the relationship that went along with the sex/lovemaking or just the biological/chemical release of the endorphins that cause'the runners high' that many people seem to enjoy during and directly after the big O?
I worked professionally with a therapist who had problems with the word masturbation..even in his client files. He used the phrase..potentiating his/her self-awareness... now its that a hoot!!For some people self stim/relase is the answer for others its the intimatcy. I have learned to compartmentalize my life; keeping my work and my personal as much separate identities as I can so I can remain as theraputic as possible.
For me and my personal life, I have PTSD and being sexually intimite or even sexual self stim envokes flashbacks that are at best very unnerving and something that I could do well to avoid...Just trying to help...
just another clueless syringchalet
