About topamax--feel so drunk--is this norm 1st exp

Posted by Mandy on November 20, 2002, at 16:18:05

My dr is insistent that I try topamax as a mood stabalizer for my bolar. But everytime I get up to 75 my, I whack out. I feel drunk, cannot talk right, am really out of it for a day or so. I am also on lexapro 20 mg and seroquel 300mg but she is trying to get me off the seroquel completely. All I know is that ever since I got a BP dx, I have had I hard time concentrating----I used to love to read and now I cannot get past a page or two in any book. It is very frustrating!!!!

Yes, it is very frustrating. Seroquel (and other AP's), can make that worse, though. Perhaps getting off the Seroquel would do the trick? If it doesn't you may need something other than Topamax for your bipolar. I started out with just 15mg of TOP and worked up to 50mg/day, and I was very zonked and it never let up. There are a lot of folks who find if they wait a while (a few weeks) it starts to clear up, though. good luck.
