Anxiety - Will Neurotonin Help

Posted by linkadge on November 5, 2002, at 16:03:35

I am taking Celexa for depression. My depression
has improved but I am still getting inadequate responce for anxiety. 20 mg helped better but I can't sleep hardly at all. I need help on getting
something better. My mother is Bipolar. I don't feel bipolar but this anxiety is just killing me.
I feel like I am going to die from a heart attack. Would a mood stabalizer like Neurotonin help my anxiety. Can anyone help ?

Neurontin is tolerated by so many, it's worth a shot. I actually have been giving it several months to give it a shot, and recently came off it.

My problem was that it acted too much as a depressant, slowing things down into a fogginess and causing me to have a monotonous tone in my voice. My anxiety's not so bad I'd rather trade it in for the way I talked like I just woke up. This may be an atypical side effect, although it's possible many do get "brain fog" from it-- then again, any psychoactive can cause that.

I would suggest trying it at different doses to see what's right for you. The first week may cause some stumbling, etc., which is easy to avoid if you take the first few doses before going to bed, which will condition your body enough so you can balance yourself as you walk.

I'd also switch to another AD, possibly Effexor XR. I just upped my dose of it to 225 from 150. I have no side effects, and hope I'll notice a change from it.

Good luck! Don't think Neurontin will cause your problems to go away, combine it with an AD. And I don't know how literal to take your heart attack concern-- if you actually are getting heart palapatations from anxiety, try a beta blocker- musicians and public speakers use them often to block adrenaline from causing them to become more anxious after noticing they're anxious.

In addition, try CBT. I didn't think it was for me until after a year of failed med trials let me realize meds probably weren't going to do much, if anything, for me. It can't hurt, but it might help. And it has the lowest side effects :)

The problem is that I'm just 19. My family has
a long line of psychiatric illness and I was
so sure I would never get anything wrong with me.

I can stand the uncomfortable feeling of anxiety
but I can't tolerate the way It makes me feel like I will die. I feel weak and it feels like my
heart cannot take it.

You sound just like me... you need to try SERZONE! Its da bomb... it puts me to sleep. It helped w/ anxiety 95%. I hate SSRI's (Celexa, Zoloft, Paxil..etc) it makes my anxiety worse and cause insomnia. If you dont have depression.. screw all those SSRI's. Try Serzone... try xanax.
