Wow, i haven't been to this site since i switched to Effexor (not a good idea for me). Anyhow, here's the situation. I was on Celexa for over a year and i found it somewhat beneficial but then it seemed to stop working and that is when i switched to Effexor. I became really frusterated and went off of everything. I havne't been on any AD for the last 3 months and it has become apparent that i need something. My anxiety has been OUT OF CONTROL. so now i am researching and was looking at paxil because i've heard it is good for anxiety. but a friend also suggested Lexapro. I hate this guessing game. any advice??

Since your primary symptom is anxiety the first order of business is a benzo (Klonopin or Xanax or a combination of the two), to get the anxiety under control. At the same time you could start an AD. Paxil is a good choice. So are TCAs, imipramine or amitryptiline pop first to mind. When your at a steady state with the AD, try backing off the benzos, slowly, to see if the AD alone controls the anxiety. If it doesn't stay on the benzos.
Hope this helps; something will.

What exactly to benzos do? will they stabilize my moods, or are they more of a take as needed? also, are the side effects similar to ADs?

The term benzos is short for benzodiazepines a class of drugs that have anxiolytic, hypnotic, and muscle relaxant properties. They are used most commonly for treating anxiety. They are very safe but one does develop a physiological dependence on them with continued use, but then most psychotropic drugs cause dependency.

Well I certainly notice more than a little psychological and psiological distress too if I taper down my blood pressure medicine too quickly!
It applies to many non-psychotropics...
