I have been on several antideppresants and haven't had a lot of problems flying my plane. (I am a pilot). I worry that someday I may have to take antipsychotics and will have to give up flying my small Cessna. Does anyone know if it is safe to pilot a plane with these kinds of medications? Anyone with any firsthand knowledge? I'm too affraid to ask my Dr.

Why are you worried about this? Is you current medication ineffective? If the answer is that your current med. regime is suitable then there is nothing to worry about and enjoy your flying!
However, if you are aware that you are experiencing thinking processes which are bothering you it would be advisable to discuss them with you psychdoc. Should antipsychotic meds. be required at some point and because of possible effect(s) upon your reaction times you really ought to consider discussing driving, flying etc. with the doc. too.
Hopefully you will be flying for sometime to come.

People's responses to medication vary greatly. I'm on a cocktail that includes two ADs, Zyprexa, and benzos. I can drive, and even ride my motorcycle with no difficulties. Others on my cocktail might have difficulties finding the bus ;)
If you ever end up taking an AP or any other med you should be able to tell whether your still airworthy. Why not, if the time comes, get another pilot to fly with you and give you an unbiased critique of your skills?
Hope this helps,
Britt
