Pharmrep, can Lexapro be used to treat anxiety?
I was on Celexa 2 years ago for depression/anxiety and it worked within 5 days. However, it later caused me to develop colitis. I've tried numerous drugs since then, but nothing has worked as well as Celexa.
I started Lexapro 9 days ago at 5mg for 5 days (for anxiety, no depression this time), and have bumped the dosage to 10mg for the last 4 days. My stomach has tolerated the Lexapro well, however, it's not helping at all with the anxiety.
If Lexapro does help with anxiety, does it take longer than the typical 1-2 weeks Lexapro treats depression?
Also, I'm suffering from insomnia and am wondering if this is a temporary side effect that will go away, or if it will last with continued use?
Thank you for your help!

I know you were asking pharmrep, but maybe I can help. I do know that my insomnia went away within about 4 days of taking Lexapro. The first few days I had severe insomnia, but it went away. Also, it has helped with my GAD. I'm really happy with Lexapro now, and I'm glad I didn't stop taking it.

Mystia, I'm glad to hear Lexapro is helping with your GAD. Could you tell me what your dosage is and how long you've been on it?
How long did it take for you to start feeling better? I'm getting discouraged. Thanks

I have been taking Lexapro since 9-13-02 and I began with 10 mg/day and that's what I still take. It took me 3-4 days to stop having such bad s/e. Now, the only s/e I have is decreased appetite. I'm really happy about sticking with it, even though I was ready to scream probably the 3rd day. I felt just like I was coming down with the flu. It gets better though! Don't get discouraged!

It was pretty bad...nausea, CONSTANT migraine, insomnia, tiredness, "vacuum-head"...just to name a few of the s/e's. The best thing I have to compare it to is coming down with the flu...and a BAD flu bug at that.

I had the exact same symptoms- flu. Lost 7 pounds. Felt like hell but it seems to have subsided.
