does anyone know if there is excessive weight loss possibly associated with semi-long term use of vicodin? i can't find any information related to this.

I think there's some caffeine in vicodin, which might cause some appetite loss. I wouldn't think it would last, though.

It seem possible that vicodin (and any other opioid) could reduce appetite, since it can cause nausea in some people.
BTW, Are you taking vicodin for pain or as an off-label psychopharmaceutical?

thanks! i am taking it for pain...i've been on it quite a while and my eating habits haven't been any different prior to starting it. i'm just trying to find out what could be causing the loss.

Certain people respond to opioids as antidepressants , without developing tolerance to the antidepressant action. Do a few searches on psycho-babble for "opioid AND depression", "buprenorphine". You'll find lots of anecdotal stories of success (and failure) with opioids and even a references to a clinical study. You'll also find a lot of "don't take opiods; they'll turn you into an addict" posts.
When the subject of opioids for depression comes up its not uncommon for flame wars to develop. I hope this doesn't happen here.

There is NO caffeine in Vicodin. Only tylenol and hydrocodone.
