I am in my late 40s and have gone through 3 weeks of sheer hell that so many have complained about including the awful "disconnected" feelings, horrible nightmares and the brain shell-shocks (I call them 'Wisenheimer Brainstorms') after discontinuing Effexor XR (150mg, last 4-5 years). I felt I didn't need the anti-depression medication anymore as my life has improved (!), but primarily because my sex drive has been low since beginning the meds during the course of the medication... which I understand is common. After 3 weeks of stopping the Effexor XR I had expected my libido to begin to return, but the opposite has happened! It got MUCH worse. I now have NO sex drive, and total inability to even obtain an erection under the best attempts (which can really become a problem with your partner). I am hoping this is part of the withdrawal process, and if so how long can it possibly last?? I would be surely greatful to know that I'm not alone with THIS withdrawal symptom. It seems alot of doctors (mine especially) don't really know alot about this drug. So guys, is it just me???

It's not uncommon with most A/D medication for the sexual sid effects to continue for a while after withdrawal. Indeed, it's part of the withdrawal process. Within a couple of months I would expect you'd be back to normal. If not, there may be some other problem - testosterone levels, vascular problems, nerve damage, etc. Have you seen a urologist for a workup ?

This is definately an effect I get.
I find that on the AD I want to but
just can't, off the AD I don't want
to anymore (but probably can). It might
be the return of your depression or
like said before, an after effect of the
med.Good Luck
