A friend of mine has been on Zopiclone for several months, and is having her prescription arbitrarily yanked, no tapering, cold turkey. She lives in the UK, where changing p-docs is evidently a lot more difficult than it is here in the New World, and pretty much has to put up with it. Does anyone know if there's anything that can be done to alleviate withdrawal symptoms from this drug if and when she develops them ???
Thanks,
K. Von Balk

I don't know the answer, but my psychiatrist is encouraging me to come off Zopiclone and Xanax. He does at least advise that this be very gradual. I said "but Zopiclone isn't a benzo" (they're insanely anti-benzo in New Zealand at the moment), and he replied, "No but it might as well be." A mysterious remark. The fact is that since I gave up alcohol many weeks ago I can't sleep so I turn up for work zombied out. The alternative is to take Zopiclone and have a good night's sleep and no detectable side-effects.

Evidently the incidence of withdrawal for this stuff is a lot lower than for benzos, but it DOES happen to some people, and about as badly at that.
