Heat wave, smelly pills

Posted by utopizen on August 17, 2002, at 12:03:18

I'm sitting here smelling a familiar smell, one that indicates I've not treated my cyndrical amber friend very well and as a result my friend is sick.

I'm in a heat wave right now, and my Wellbutrin has that disgusting smell some pills get after you expose them to too much heat (i.e., be in a heat wave).

So while I'm toughing it out in my non-A/C'ed dorm room in one of the worst heat waves of the century without complaints, Mr. Wellbutrin is begging me for a fresh spray of Lysol.

Wellbutrin is suppose to be stored at room tempature, but my room isn't room tempature. What am I suppose to do about it, besides curiously sniffing this putrid odor for the next 2 months until I get a new prescription?

There's no way to store something at room tempature if you don't have A/C in a heat wave, so I'm suppose to just hope these things don't make me sick even though the smell is an obvious outgrowth of something turning.

Wellbutrin sometimes stinks no matter what you do.
This is from the package insert.

Do Bupropion tablets have characteristic odor?

"Bupropion tablets may have a characteristic odor.
(Get this line)If an odor is present, it is normal."

First time I read that, I cracked up. I call it Smellbutrin. I've been using my AC daily and my Wellbutrin still started stinking. Hideous but nothing to worry about. Just think of it as swallowing a pair of very used workout socks.

I have Serzone and Sonata in my room, which gets about 10 hours of air conditioning each night. For the other 14 hours, it's hot. I have never smelled my pills to see if they were okay, but from the way you describe it, if I had smelly pills, I'd have smelled them by now!

I have never worried about it before except when I go camping, at which time I put them in the cooler. But a car is much hotter than a room.

I have wondered about my pills in this heat wave. (We've been near 100 for most of three weeks.) My situation has been the same, though, for three years. It's hot in the summer in Baltimore, but my pills always seem to work. (Hell, it's hot in the fall and spring in Baltimore, too!)

I hope someone else answers! If not, ask the pharmacy--any pharmacist will be able to answer your question.

They add color dyes, don't they? =)

Can't they just hook up with a frangrance company?

Speaking of which, why the wellbutrin not?

Every pill should have a frangrance. Antidepressants, especially- maybe for companies concerned their products don't actually work could hope that people will simply be happier smelling something good once and day and that would relieve their depression?

Somewhere, a drug company is reading this and saying, "why didn't I think of that?"

And maybe research could be done not to just make pills smell better, but to make pills make people smell better. I want Coolwater in a pill.

It'll be the wackiest, craziest idea since they made phenobarbitual and desoxyn (methamphetimine) in a single pill, but it'll sell a lot.

what fragrance can overcome Wellbutrin. Maybe we could go with Jovan Musk...I'd hurl for sure.

You could try adding on some Depakote to help cover the smell. The vanilla-candy smell from Depakote is pleasant, maybe if Depakote gets hot enough it will really waft well.
