I am a college student on 4.5 mg of Risperdal. I'm concerned about my future. Are there any antipsychotics that will not harm a developing fetus?

OK, may I ask if you're taking this for anxiety? I heard there's a trend to take risperdal for anxiety.
Personally, it seems weird to me if I were to take it, because I never liked the idea of something that targeted my frontal lobes. In my uneducated mind, I put antipsychotics up there with ECT just because frontal lobe changes freak me out- apathy, all that, I'm sure is rare-- still freaks me out, no matter what you can tell me.
well, good luck.

The last poster raised a good point as to why you were prescribed an AP, if it was because you have psychotic episodes like I have had then this is what I did when pregnant: I stopped all meds very slowly-except klonopin- (over several months and under constant supervision). I had a very close support group so that if I showed signs of a manic episode (mine sometimes get psychotic), my shrink would be notified right away. If it was really bad when pregnant I took one of the older APs which have a pretty good safety record until all signs of psychosis disappeared. I gave birth to a healthy baby girl 6 months ago. I wish you all the best- judy
