Hi, i am newly diagnosed as BipolarI, and the p-doc had me taking lithum, which caused extreme exhaustion, vomiting, diarrhea and I had floaters in my vision. He told me to stop taking it and just take my Ativan for my anxiety. I feel really out of sorts... messed up actually. I have two questions ...
1. How long before this Lithium gets out of my system?
2. What else is there for me to take since I cannot tolerate lithium? I do NOT want to feel like a vegetable and need to be able to function on a day to day basis to care for my two small children.
Any advice or words of encouragement will be appreciated. Thanks

I can't tolerate Lithium either. The good thing is that it comes out of your system pretty fast. Within a few days at the most it should be all out of your system. I take Lamictal as a mood stabilizer. It has been great and I don't get any side effects from it. (I also have two kids to care for and have to be up and running! LOL!) Hope you're feeling better soon.

It's out very quickly.. take saltwater to speed up the process. Be careful though and keep in touch with your doc.

Other anticonvulsants and antipsychotics(differential responses. very individual I notice)

Topamax
Lamictal
Neurontin

High dose Omega 3 (needs more research)
