Please! Help me B 4 Bedtime 10pm. (Trimipramine)

Posted by rodm on July 16, 2002, at 22:31:52

Thanks for those who wrote me yesterday about my new prescription. I picked it up today from the pharmacy. Its (SURMONTIL 25MG each), I'm using it to assist my deep sleep, I'll use my cpap machine with it. The Dr.'s instructions are " 1 capsule twice daily for 7 days, then 2 capsules twice daily for 3 weeks". I recieved the post from (Fachad) today thankyou, you sound very knowledgeble and experienced with this drug. My concern is I drive truck for a living I cant' take this prescription twice a day, since it induces sleep, right? Also Fachad said take 25mg a day (before bed) then the second week take 50mg before bed if needed. Please give me your input, why the odd diference between most recommendations and those of my Dr.??

You need to follow the directions your doctor gave you. You need to ask your doctor to clairify the instructions.

Are you taking the Surmontil to help you sleep, or for depression, or something else?

If it's for sleep only, most docs will tell you to only take it when you need it, and as low a dose as works for you.

If it's for something else besides sleep, you may need to take more than just enough to help you sleep to get the other benefits.

I really don't think it's a good idea to be taking it during the day if you are going to be driving a truck - but again, you should ask your doctor and follow his instructions.

Hi. I think it would be a good idea to start the Surmontil on a night when you DON'T have to drive the next day. That way you can see how it affects you. Most of these meds take a little bit of getting used to. I hope it goes well for you.

DO I TAKE IT 1 HOUR BEFORE BED? Thanks both of you for your help, I'm going to follow your advice take it at night, lowest dose possible (25mg), just at bed time, and increase it after 7 days to 50mg (if I need to), I'm only using it for sleep. I'll talk to my dr. when I get the chance. Thanks again.

rodm,

I take mine 2 hrs before sleep, that way I fall asleep fast when I go to bed.
