Has anyone heard of an animal model of bipolar? Rats, mice etc..

They use sleep deprivation and amphetamines in rats to study the manic phase. They can permanently induce manic like states with carefully placed neurotoxins. But so far nothing that cycles by itself.

You're referring to Curare, a paralyzing agent that blocks synaptic transmission between nerve and muscle at the neuromuscular junction. You can find it by going to South America and finding a certain species of climbing vine. I'm not sure how it affects sodium channels, but what you said makes sense to me.

.... actually.... (consults elite website) it's called Batrachotoxin .... though it appears that by causing the sodium channel to remain open... you prevent the nerve from re-firing.... plus 150 micro grams are toxic to a 150 pound person :(
.... maybe i'll try some Domoic acid... what is a "blue mussel"? ...

You don't want domoic acid: dolphins are floating belly up right now from a domoic acid outbreak. Their hippocampuses (hippocampii?) (small to begin with) show cell death.
