Hi all,
I'm new to this board.
Here's my situation: I've been on Zyprexa for a couple of years and it's caused huge weight gain (50 pounds or so), it makes me sleepy all the time. I've got no motivation and it seems to dull my mood. I don't feel any joy but I don't really get that low, it sorta leaves me on an even par.
Anyway, I live in Australia and my pdoc tells me he wants me to go on a new drug called amisulpride when it comes out next month. Since then I've been doing all the research I can on amisulpride and it seems to be a very promising drug and the way it is a dopamine stabilizer sounds like it is the drug for me.
So, I ask people on this board if they could please share their experiences with amisulpride with me. Particularly people who have tried or are on it and people who have taken zyprexa and had weight gain, and have lost the weight on amisulpride.Much appreciated :)
Cheers :)
Jimmy.

Hi Jimmy,
I currently take Zyprexa and have had some issues with weight gain. A month ago I changed my eating habits (high protein, low carbs) and started an exercise program. I've lost about a pound a week. That's slow, but at least I'm losing weight.
As far as I know, Zyprexa causes more weight gain than the other atypical anti-psychotics. Hopefully changing to amisulpride will make it easier to lose the weight you've gained on Zyprexa.Another board to post to, if you haven't already, is http://schizophrenia.com. I think you'll find a larger pool of people who have experience with anti-psychotics.
Good luck.

Thanx Melinda.
I've been to that site before and they really only know the AP's that are out in the US. I posted here because I remember reading some people here who have tried Amisulpride.
Anyway thanx for your help :)

I don't know anything about amisulpride, but just wanted to relate with you on all the weight I gained on Zyprexa. I gained 70 lbs. Let me know how amisulpride works for you and maybe I should give it a try.
