Not sure what to do......

Posted by andyboy on June 9, 2002, at 23:04:50

Hi all,
Havent posted in awhile. Been under alot of stress lately. Personal issues, (break-up-work, etc.) anxiety's been in check, but the "blues" are really kicking in. Dont want to add a new med- currently on Klono. Question is- is it safe to temporarily raise my dosage?? I'm relectant- because i dont want to raise it for a little while, and then have difficulty going back to my usual dose. Talking to doc on Tuesday- but wondering- any suggestions???
Andy

Hi Andyboy, I'm currently taking 0.5mg/tid of clonazepam and have over the past 8years raised and lowered my dose with no problem. I was taking as much as 2mg/qid after 1 year of use but I was able to taper down to my current dose after finding the right combo.to augment. As my pdoc says, "USE THE DRUG-DON'T LET IT USE YOU". Some people have addictive traits and should be cautious when increasing their meds.I do increase my clonaz. during stressful times. Rick

I stink at benzos so raising the dose was always
the kiss of death for me.

I would think that if the current Klonopin dose is keeping your
anxiety in check, then it would not be wise to raise the
dose in anticipation of getting an AD effect ??
It was my understanding from reading a lot of posts
on this board, that Klonopin dosage should only be
adjusted to maintain its desired anxiolytic effect?

It will be interesting to see what others and your pdoc
think.

Good Luck,
John

Maybe the other posters who gave you advice on this thread know you better and know that by "the blues" you meant that your depression was returning. I assume that's the case, since they gave you advice on your meds. If it is true, I'm probably offering useless advice. If it's not, I hope you will take this in the helpful spirit in which it was intended.

Whether you suffer from chronic depression or not, it is absolutely normal to get the blues from stress and personal problems. If you're blue because of work and a break up, you shouldn't be medicating for that.

I recently had a problem pregnancy, and I wasn't sleeping. I was also deeply, deeply sad and cried all the time. Instead of upping my dosage, I left it at the lower dosage I'd begun taking just a few weeks prior. Eventually, maybe after a couple of weeks, that awful sadness disappeared, and I started sleeping again.

I hope that your blues are sadness. That will go away in time, without medicine.

Good luck.
