I had been taking antidepressants for about seven years without a problem until I was advised to combine Effexor and Remeron. Since taking that combination of drugs, I have extreme reactions to any medication I have taken and my brain is now so sensitive that drinking a beer now makes me feel extremely depressed. I am now seeing a neurologist and have recently had an EEG test, which has shown abnormal results consistent with exposure to drugs , and am about to undergo a MRI scan. Hopefully this will show what exactly what damage has been caused by antidepressant drugs.
I would urge anyone considering taking combinations of drugs to think very carefully about it.

These are wise words; I hope things turn out well for you!
I have had a worrisome experience with Effexor as well. I was prescribed Effexor in
the morning and Neurontin for the evening. I began with Neurontin the first night;
it proved efficacious enough, though there were a bevy of annoying side-effects the
following day. On that day, I took Effexor in the morning for the first time. Shortly
after swallowing the Neurontin at night, I suffered an appalling reaction: the exterior
of my head felt as if it were on fire, the interior as if it were exploding! I additionally
suffered severe chills and a frightening diminuition in lucidity, and spent the night
crunched in the fetal position. I would have dialed 911 had I been able to move. I
felt I was going to die.As Effexor is more relevant to my difficulties, I gave up the Neurontin and there were
no more of these episodes - thank goodness. I have seen quite a few complaints about
troubles with each of these drugs: I would recommend great caution before combining
them.
Best regards,
Mr Beev

That's odd, I've had a very similar experience. I took about half a pill of Effexor XR 37.5mg one night on top of my 30mg of Remeron. I suddenly had such a painful overwhelming headache I could barely move. It wasn't like a normal headache though, it was localized; as if someone have hammered a nail into a spot in my head. Pretty scary.

That is exactly the sort of headache I had, localized around the top of my head. When I told the shrink what was happening, he told me to increase the dose of Remeron, which just made it worse. That was the worst advice he could have given me.

My friend suffered some severe Methamphetamine induced brain damage. Here's some links I sent him to put him a bit more at ease:

Thanks for the links. I've never used meth, but it gives me hope for recovery from my own memory loss.
