Hey
I've been on desiprimine for 2 weeks. And I have noticed that I have gotten very weak. I usually workout for 1 to 2 hours. But in the last week my work outs are much harder to maintain at a certain intensity and my time to exercise is only about 30 minutes.
I know that weakness is a side affect. But I was wondering if it is a side effect that will pass.
Anybody who has any insight, would be a great help.
Thanks
tb

You'll have to ask your doctor, but... I'm on imipramine which is close (very close) to desipramine. My doctor told me that sedation was one of the side effects that would pass. It did for me. Not sure if that's the same as the "weakness" you describe. I did feel weak on Nortriptyline and it didn't pass. Desipramine is known to be more activating than nortriptyline, though.
Hope you get more helpful responses.

Well desipramine increases norepinephrine... so the only thing besides a sedation effect I can think of might be a pressor effect (like too much coffee) where during exercise your heart might beat faster or blood pressure go higher than it did before, making it in essence a harder workout. Maybe check your pulse and if you can your blood pressure.
You would have to adjust the intensity of exercise or decrease the desipramine dose if that was it -- and your doc would want to know.
Probably totally unrelated...
