Took nardil for years and years and finally two years ago pooped out. Now I am trying lamictal (along with buprenorphine to keep me alive), but am looking for what's next in case lamictal fails. (I am willing to go up to 800mg of lamictal.)
Any reason to think effexor would work?

800mg seems hugely excessive to me. I doubt you would be able to remember your own name at that dosage. How much are you taking now?

That you were responsive to Nardil is a perfect reason to try Effexor. That you are treatment-resistant is another wonderful reason to try Effexor if you have not already. Effexor is favored by many clinicians for treating difficult cases. One TRD specialist (Andrew Nierenberg) commented to me before its approval that Effexor (then known only as venlafaxine) was a sort of non-MAOI MAOI.

Actually 600mg is what I meant to write. Ivan Goldberg says "up to 600mg" on his website. First time I tried lamictal, worked at 200mg; second time at 400mg. So I am not expecting anything until at least 400, or maybe 600 this time. That was combined with nardil though. Now I'm off nardil, but the last pdoc I talked to (one of those NIH guys who wouldn't take me on), told me if the Nardil wasn't working without the lamictal, he didn't think it had a factor in my success. I think some pdocs would disagree. So there is also the possibility that I could add nardil if lamictal on its own doesn't have an affect.

So I guess if I tried it again, I would take crumbs for a while, then work myself up. But it seems that effexor gets the most best and worst threads on PB.
