Provigil (Modafinil/Alertec), the $5 per pill "miracle" drug many had hoped would replace Adderall/Dexedrine & Ritalin seems to be turning out to be a major dissapointment in research studies.
Cephalon Reports NO Benefit from PROVIGIL in Study of Adults with ADHD:

Maintaining alertness and performance during sleep deprivation: modafinil versus caffeine:
"Modafinil (Provigil) does NOT appear to offer advantages over caffeine (which is more readily available & less expensive) for improving performance & alertness during sleep loss for otherwise normal healthy adults."However, atleast among narcoleptics, the research now shows that the effects of Provigil are dose related & that the 400 mg is far superior to the recommended 200 mg dose:

I don't know # Beer Effect about others, but I think like most meds, you'll have those it helps, those it does nothing for, & those who feel awful on it. I, for one, am a fan of it. While I'm narcoleptic, yes, I'm also ADHD & I find it helps me, especially with remembering better. But to be honest, it's not always easy to tell when ADHD & narcolepsy traits will overlap. But my Mom who shows no signs of narcolepsy that I've ever known of, finds adrafinil has helped her memory & alertness.

Iso, are you not in the United States? I'm just curious how you and your mom are obtaining adrafinil.
I thought modafinil sounded great - just what I needed! Until I priced it at $8 per pill. Please. $480 per month?

Nope, I'm in Canada. I order it on-line through a British pharmacy. I'm hoping to be able to get it directly from France through a friend's cousin soon. And yes, Provigil is hellishly expensive, which is why I use adrafinil.
