Hi Nikki,

You may be able to relieve this with anticholinergic medications. Try some whopper benadryl. But you *really* need to call your doctor immediately and let him know that this is happening.

Best Wishes
John

OTC Benadryl could probably help it. You NEED to talk to a doctor about this immediately, not in May! Sounds like EPS type symptoms. Dont mess with this stuff...see someone about it NOW.

EPS stands for "Extrapyramidal Syndrome" and it is basically anti-psychotic drug induced parkinsons like symptomology. It can typically consist of tremors or twitches, muscle stiffness or tightness, tightness in the throat, having a "numb tongue" feeling. Its the most common side effect of anti-psychotics and its usually treated either by reducing the anti-psychotic dosage, going off the anti-psychotic totally or adding an anti-cholinergic drug like Cogentin or Artane. Usually it goes away if you go off the anti-psychotic.

The bad thing about EPS is if you stay on the anti-psychotic longterm with these symptoms, it can cause longterm, chronic problems like parkinsons, TD, etc. Its best to talk to your doctor pronto about this.

here are some decent links that describes EPS:

I STRONGLY suggest you talk to your doctor before you change anything Nikki. I dont see why you dont have access to the doctor who prescribed this drug. Does this doctor have another doctor covering for them? When doctors go out of town usually another doctor covers for them.

Nikki,

This happened to me on Zyprexa at high dose, and it was eased by lowering the dose. I discontinued the medicine. I personally feel it is inexcusable for there not to at least be a doctor on call for you to talk to this about, and agree fully with Old School on all Old School's thoughts.

May I asked why you are taking the increased dosage? Is this for bipolar to help with mood stabilization/antimanic effect?

TD/EPS is serious business. You don't want this baggage with you for the rest of your life.

John
