Hi,
I report a strange effect of Effexor xr 75: after taken it, from 2 to 6 h i feel quiet and a little sedate as i was on Benzo.
It's a right effect for me, but i have ever known any effects like this when i was on other AD.
Is it only my personal effect?
Thanks!

No, I tend to feel sedated on Effexor XR too during the day. Then at night I can't sleep. I had given up on coffee before but now I need it to start the day (2 strong cups). Some days I don't feel it, some days it comes back. I'm on 75mg a day too.
When I started at 37.5mg a day, for the first week, I was so sedated during the day that I couldn't function. Then I had complete insomnia at night. My doc made me take my dose later in the day so I could get some work done and so I could sleep too. After a while, I went back to taking it in the morning.
So I'd say you're not alone. I never took benzos, so I can't compare the feeling.- sid

I'm also on 75 mg. (for about 6 days now). I think I'm a little drousey throughout the day because I have restless sleep at night. I'm wondering if it's not so much the drug but the lack of good sleep at night.

Sounds like my experience. It works on my dysthymia and anxiety though, so I'm toughing it out. I try to catch on some sleep when I can, taking a nap in the afternoon (Saturdays usually).

I have been feeling very WEAK- not necessarily sedated the last few days while beginning Effexor. Today even more so, after a night of on-and-off sleeping, like others of you have noticed.
Does this go away?

You are probably week because you're getting a lousy night's sleep because that's what Effexor does to a person when they are on it. You may want to talk with your doctor about this but I took Tylenol PM before going to bed at night and that really helped me to sleep better through the night. Also, if you aren't already, you may want to engage in a good 30 minute workout (jogging, etc.) in the mornings. Maybe you're out of shape like I am. If the weakness really becomes a problem, talk with your doctor and he/she can put you on something else. I was having some inner ear problems caused by the Effexor, after two weeks, and my doctor had me on Paxil now. Good luck.
This is the end of the thread.
