Prozac social anxiety

Is prozac good for social anxiety. I don't mean the physical symptoms. I just mean feeling awkard and saying weird , wrong things.

No, Prozac is good for depression. Paxil is an antidepressent that seems to help mild, daily anxiety. For really bad anxiety, I'd suggest Xanex.

I would agree with the poster below. I don't know about Paxil, though. I think it was a sham that it got "approved" for social anxiety. Either try the Xanax or clonazepam, or regular doses of these with prozac.

Best wishes..

jjj,
In my experience Prozac helps a lot with this specific type of anxiety. I think this effect is thought to be related to serotonin in some way in which case any of the other SSRIs might work also.

It was the first SSRI med available and it helped my social anxiety a LOT. I was taking benzos off and on before (not Klonopin or Xanax though) and they helped but not as much as Prozac. I couldn't tolerate very much of it though because of bipolar probs, too.

Jane,

From what I read, Prozac is good for about anything. Social anxiety included. It will make you less inhibited around people, which will make you more comfortable. Give it a shot. I would reccommend it to be taken with a benzo. though initially. Klonopin preferably. Prozac causes a lot of generalized anxiety, I hear. If you use the Klonopin initially, it will keep this in check until you adjust to it. Good luck.

Frankie.

After reading others response to your question, I take back what I said about Prozac. I use it for depression, but apparently it works well for other disorders.

I have to say that the Prozac make me feel normal. Not depressed, not anxious. Initially you may feel a little like you've done cocaine, with the same kind of "confident" feeling, but it doesn't last.
