In only two days I believe I got a response from it. I've been taking 3000 mg (the maximum) in divided doses, and I feel a little bit better. {Its a mood-stabilizer, by the way; I am unipolar depressed}. Hopefully I will make a full recovery in the next few weeks on Keppra.
More information on this later...

Hi TSA WEST,
I am Bipolar II, currently on 1000mg. Depakote, 150mg. Zoloft, and 10mg. Ambien bedtime. I have been trying to get rid of a very nasty atypical depression for the past 9 mos. I may be included in a clinical trial for either Keppra or Zonegran but my own pdoc is in favor of Remeron. I feel stabile on the Dep. and don't want to feel like I have been run over by a bus with the Remeron. What would your opinion be?

Geezer,I think atypical depression is typical for bipolar II.
Btw, have you ever thought about adding an anti-psychotic like
Zyprexa? Also what other mood-stabilizers have you tried?
Lamictal has a good reputation for its anti-depressant properties.
A lot of Pdocs are of the school of thought that bipolar is
best treated with more mood stabilizers or anti-psychotics than
anti-depressants. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Has there ever been a time when you had the atypical depression
under control?Regards

Sounds like it's not a very potent drug (the whopping 3 gram dose). But that's terrific that it's helping you so fast! Can you give more detail about how it's helping -- what symptoms are improving, e.g.? I've been wanting to give it a try. Maybe I'll ask the neurologist I'm going to see (been having seizures) about it.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Yeah! Congratulations!
When you post next, if you could dig up any info on the
meds modes of actions that may be interesting?
Also when can the rest of us pecker heads get our hands on
this new formula?Best Regards,
