Does Lithium make you hungry? Aside from the water weight does anyone know what the deal is with LiCO3 and weight gain?

Hey Scott. You ask a good question.

My personal opinion is that Lithium is less likely to cause weight gain than Divalproex or carbamazepine. I am interested in hearing what others have to say on this matter.

For the short period I was on lithium, it did not make me more hungry. But, it did make me very thirsty, and seemed to cause cravings for sugary drinks. I became addicted to regular coke as well as all kinds of bottled juice drinks, ice teas, etc. The floor of my car on the passenger side filled up with all the empties!

I think that I had gotten to the point where I was ready to make a conscientious effort to stick to water, though it did seem like it was going to be a challenge. I discontinued the lithium for other reasons around that time, though, so I'll never know if I would have succeeded in breaking my sweet drink habit.
