Has anyone here ever gotten a "numb tongue" from taking Zyprexa, Risperdal or Seroquel? Whenever I take even low doses of any of these anti-psychotics my tongue gets real numb and tight feeling and my muscles get all tight and begin to pop and twitch mildly. Has anyone else here had these sorts of side effects on atypical anti-psychotics?
Just curious.

this happened to me today, i felt very DYSPHORIC, depersonlization, my toung was numb and my face was numb and muscles weree twitching. Altough i dont take an anti-phsyc, i take gaba meds. Gabaril that is. Although i use ghb and this hits doppamine. It seems our effects are dopainergenic related or gaba related. Scary feeling isnt it. More so panic attack disorder for me.

Just to say I've taken Zyprexa (sometimes 10MG) and didn't experience any tongue numbing.

> DeniseWow, just 2.5 mg of Zyprexa makes my tongue quite numb, as well as makes my muscles tight feeling. Makes my muscles twitch a little bit too. I guess I must be not typical with regard to these atypical anti-psychotics.

Hi. It might be a mild acute dystonic or dyskinetic reaction. If that's what it is, adding Artane or Cogentin might help. Has your doctor said anything about it?

> -elizabethNo its not an acute reaction. It stays as long as I stay on the atypical anti-psychotic. I had that on ALL the atypicals I have tried. It will start the day I go on the atypical and continue til I stop. I was on 50 mg Seroquel this past fall and after I went off the Seroquel I suddenly began developing "rebound" muscle tightness and tongue numbness, extreme tightness on the back of my head, throat tightening, mild problems swallowing. Its still continuing. I take OTC benadryl for it and I just tried Amantadine for it, which helped a lot and fixed a lot of the aches and pains Ive had for years. However the Amantadine made me extremely dizzy and created the most somnolence of any drug Ive ever tried. It also made me confused feeling. So I stopped it.
I had this same reaction to low dose Zyprexa and to low dose Risperdal years ago, except the difference was this time it stayed around after I discontinued the drug, whereas in the past it always stopped the day I quit the anti-psychotic.
My posture is also beginning to change since all this started with Seroquel. Like Im rounding over in the upper back and Im losing muscle tone and stuff.
