I have a moderately high TSH level and am currently on Synthroid but would like to supplement this medication with a T3 perscription. Can Psychiatrists perscribe T3 supplements such as Cytomel?
Thanks for your help,

Yes mine ONLY always cytomel or cytomel and levothyroxine, saying its the most direct way to the problem. Can't always count on the liver to turn T4 into T3.

Yes. My pdoc first picked up on the thyroid thing and prescribed cytomel first, later adding synthroid. Later on, I saw an endo, who increased the dose of the synthroid because my hypothyroid was worse than the pdoc actually thought. BTW, the endo also taught me that cytomel should be taken in split doses because it is more short acting than synthroid.

Scott--I'm now putting 2 and 2 together. After reading the lightbox thread, I started to wonder about your thyroid status.
Maybe you should look into it further--could you be undertreated for hypothyroid?
This is the end of the thread.
