At the bottom of the miry pit

Posted by crinn on December 30, 2001, at 12:54:49

My question is this. I am one step from calling my doc and asking to be hospitalized for my own safety. But just as cancer patients are given morphine for extreme pain, is there any med that they can give me to help me through this dark time? It has lasted 4 days--with no let up. I've had depression/bi-polar for 18 months and have never been this bad for this long before. Please help.

I would call him and tell him what is going on. Is your depression agitating (like a "mixed" state), or are you lethargic, melancholic, fatigued, and withdrawn? If you are all agitated you may need to get to the ER especially if you are having a lot of ruminating thoughts. On the other hand, if you are all withdrawn and fatigued your pdoc might be able to get you a script for a psychostimulant like Dexedrine/Adderall, etc. to "snap" you out of this until you can get other meds going for you. I have bipolar seasonal depression, and typically I feel VERY VERY tired and apathetic, with a lot of sleeping (at this time of year). I am taking Wellbutrin (with other meds) and it is keeping me out of it fairly well. But, a stimulant like Adderall worked much better and nearly immediately in the past to help with this. I would call him up,

good luck
Mitch
