I was on prozac, then luvox, then zoloft, and finally found some relief for moderate to severe major depression with ruminations from 40 mg. celexa, 15 mg. adderal. I stayed on that for over year and stupidly, because I hated the numbing of my emotions -- like inability to really grieve for my mother's death -- I weaned myself, very slowly from both drugs.
Well, it didn't matter how slow I went off the meds, I became severely depresed, as depressed as ever in my life, even for the first time full of suicidal ideation and developed very bad anxiety. I went back on 40 mg. celexa as fast as I coult titrate up, which for me is pretrty slow because I have side effects, but 40 did not do what 40 did before. I am too anxious to add adderall as before --the adderal is a twofer for me -- it seems to boost the celexa as well as improve mood on its own and it also combats the sedation I get from celexa.
So now I am on 60 mg. celexa for two weeks and ativan for anxiety. My pdoc treats many people with more than 40 or even 60 mg. celexa. There is much misinformation about higher doses of celexa because some very small, limited duration studies didn't show 60 did much more than 40 -- but these studies seem contrary to people's experience.
My depression still has not broke, and I hope I am not one of the unfortunate few for whom the drug doesn't work as well the second time around. My pdoc is one of the most experienced in a large city and he says he doesn't really have that problem.
I'd like to hear from people taking more than 40 mg. celexa. The only real bad side effect so far is sedation, sleeping 12 hours a day. Thnaks.

I'm on 60mg for OCD. Sedation is not bad, in fact I'm more wired than anything else. Strangely I seem to yawn more, even though I'm not tired. The only problematic side effects are a complete supression of the libio, partial impotence, and anorgasmia. Still, so far it seems to be working, and I'd rather have no sex life than no life at all.

Well, thanks for responding. I am still too depressed to think about sex. But it is good to know that you are otherwise tolerating the drug. At 40mg. I had no sexual side effects. My pdoc usually adss a little wellbutrin when they occur.
Hopefully the 60 mg. will work for my depression ad runminations -- it's been 3 weeks now at 60 and would have hoped to feel better but I know it takes awhile.
This is the end of the thread.
