I gained about 5-10 pounds at higher doses of depakote. But it was not really a big deal. The big deal for me is the hair loss. But I have heard supplimental zinc and selenium can help with this. I am contemplating going back on depakote myself, and need to dig out my minerals...If I remember right, I think you are on Topamax? I think alot of people are given Top to counter the weight gain associated with Depakote. Hopefully, Top will help keep of any potential weight gain, if you are still taking it.
And do remember, everyone is different. There are many that don't gain any on Depakote (or have hair thinning). I think if you need the med you should take it! From what I have read as I have lurked on PSB, this has been a tough time for you. I hope so much you can get some relief soon.

Hi akc,I did a search on this board, and found 350 threads (187 in year 2001) on this issue. Just do it in the advanced search function and type in:
depakote "weight gain"
(use the quotes)
and click the button "all terms." Then it searches for everything. You should have some good reading there. BTW, since I am reading up on this same topic myself, it seems that it's likely one will gain at least a little weight. But the Topamax can be used to counteract this.
Which AD are you on? Ever tried Wellbutrin? Just curious... Last night on chat you said you couldn't remember what each drug was supposed to do in your cocktail. If you can remember, it would help me or anybody else who's anxious to help you with this... Does seem like it's time to look more closely at the meds.
