There is tons of clinical and anecdotal evidence suggesting that Zyprexa has mild antidepressant qualities of its own, anti manic qualities, and that it is a good augmentation to antidepressants.
The doc you mentioned who knows that it is a mood stabilizer knows what he's talking about. The other one needs to catch up on some homework.

Zyprexa is FDA approved for the acute treatment of mania (tho' paradoxically it has been noted to occasionally precipitate mania). It's gaining a reputation as a useful adjunctive MS. One or two studies have suggested Zyprexa *might* augment SSRIs (didn't work in my case) and it may have mild AD properties of its own (it did with me but I prefer Lamictal, tho' I may add Zyprexa back at some stage).

hi,
Zyprexa is used sometimes for mania or anxiety. Seems to be more than just an anti-psychotic.
One side effect I noticed is that it made me horizontal for long periods - like 20 hours at a time. Maybe that's why it's so effective with anxiety.
Also read up on it and discovered it has the most weight gain of all the newer anti-psychotics. Geodon has the least if that's a concern.
best wishes,
Twain
