Hi I would really really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced ringing sounds in your ears while taking zoloft. How long did it take to go away after you stopped this medication. I would also like to hear from anyone who has had this happen from other medications particularly ssri types, and how long it took to go away. I have been off zoloft for 9 weeks, and am still getting a pulsating sound in my ears, and pressure feelings, and various pains around my head. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary,
Well, you're not alone. I've tried a lot of drugs that made my ears ring. Zoloft was one of them. When I switched to Prozac however, the ringing went almost completely away. At one time I was taking Lamictal, and after about a month on it my ears were the quietest in my life. Prozac has been cited in literature as being helpful for ringing in the ears. With me it actually increased the ringing for the first two or three days, but then after that it got quiet very fast.Even though 9 weeks is a long time, it could be your brain chemistry is still going through some adjustments in the absence of Zoloft. Possibly, maybe not. Regardless, most of your symptoms should going away in time, but the ringing might always remain at some degree. Drugs that have been studied in treating ringing in the ears are Prozac, Lamictal, Tegretol, Depakote, Meclizine, Serc Betahistine.

Hi JohnL, Thank you for responding. Can you tell me if the ringing in your ears started as a result of medication. Have you ever tried being off this type of meds, and how is the ringing now for you?

> MaryHi Mary,
I do not know if the ringing started with medication. I just have no recollection of when it started. I never really noticed it until I tried certain meds and it became loud. There is no way I could get off my meds. I've tried. Three days and I'm a gonner. Wicked depression sets in fast.
The ringing right now is rather quiet. I hardly ever even notice it. I think Prozac is mostly responsible for quieting it down, but I think also Zyprexa has a little to do with it as well.
