I am a 20 year old female. I have a problem. I think that I may be depressed (or have dysthymia, which I have yet to research). I've never been to a doctor or been on medication because I do not have medical insurace. I believe that this depression may be causing sexual dysfunction. I have NO interest in sex. I don't get aroused. I just lost the love of my life because he needs more of a physical relationship than I could give him. I need some sort of help, whether it is advice or a suggestion of where I can get help without having to pay so much for it. Thank you.

One other suggestion besides following up on your reading on depression: check the library for a copy of "Screaming to be Heard: Hormonal Connections Women Suspect, and Doctors Still Ignore" by Elizabeth Lee Vliet MD.
In it, she notes that some women have no interest in sex because their bodies produce too little testosterone (yes, the male hormone). If your serum testosterone levels are unusually low, supplementation of tiny amounts of testosterone will normalize it (and your libido). However, this blood test has to be ordered by a doctor.
Is there a community clinic or county health service in your area where you could see a physician for free or at a reduced rate? You may want to get a good physical exam before assuming your problem is related to depression.
Best wishes,
Mark H.

Maybe use the search functions on this site for past entries. Keep searching you'll find answers.

Yes, that is one of the symptoms of depression--
to have little or no sex drive.

Thank all of you for your input. There are mental health facilites in my area that offer free screenings for depression, and I plan on following up with that. Again, thanks.
