I have just had a reoccurrence of my OCD. I went on Anafranil which worked extremely well for me in the past. This time, it seemed to really exacerbate my symptoms. I was happy, happy ... but crazy, crazy. Couldn't turn off the brain. Everything invading and bothering me. So I came off. Now ... I still feel symptomatic, and very tired. My OCD is connected with my sleep. Rituals done at night. So I need a medication that has a sleepytime effect.
Well faithful psychobabble audience ... any suggestions about what med. I can take.
Now I am wondering if I should return to Anafranil. I was reading previous sites, where they mention that it's very common for people's symptoms to worsen before they improve. I was on the med. for 10 days only. But whoo ... my brain was working overtime! Perhaps I should have stayed on it longer.
What has worked for you, fellow OCD sufferers. Is anyone out there medication free??

The mood stabilizer Neurontin has been shown to help for some people as an adjunct with other anti-OCD meds. I read a warning somewhere which stated that withdrawal of Neurontin in patients with OCD tended to aggravate their OCD symptoms and recommended a slower withdrawal.

am actually experiencing this aggravation on OCD
symptoms b/c I withdrew from Neurotin too quickly.
I posted about it and most people said they went
cold turkey with no problem, but it really seems to
have effected me. Thanks for making me feel like
I'm not going crazy.

I think Zyprexa is now used as an adjunctive medication to treat OCD. It sounds like adding it to Anafranil might help with the remaining symptoms you are describing. It's just a guess.Good luck.

Just curious - did adding Neurontin help with OCD?

My OCD is more connected with obsessive, ruminating
thoughts rather than obsessive behaviors...I found
it helped with the obsessive thoughts, calmed me
down.

A friend of mine is taking risperdal for OCD and it seems to be working very well to calm his never-ending obsessive ruminations.

I've taken Remeron (37.5-45mg/night) for 4 1/2 years with very good results for mild-moderate OCD (primarily ruminations...at times paralyzing fear of harming others) and major depression. The serotonin/norepinephrine mix has really, really helped. I feel great.
