I've been on Effexor for about 3 months now and thought it was a good drug. I got past the initial side effects and my mood improved BUT now I have to admit that I'm physically a mess. I'm having reflux so bad that I'm back on ulcer medicine for the first time in over 10 years. I'm hypothyroid but I've been having HYPERthyroid symptoms. I decided to check the internet to see if these symptoms could be related to the Effexor and I was surprised to find they were. "Thyroid Changes" is actually listed under rare side effects. It wouldn't be the first time I ended up with a supposed rare side effect from a drug (when I took morphine post surgically I forgot how to pee, the technical term is urinary hesitancy).
Thank heaven for this web site. If it weren't for the knowledge I've gained here, I would have quit Effexor cold turkey. Instead, I'm slowly dosing down over the next month. Thank you all for your input. You never know when something you post will help another.

James here....
This may be listed as uncommon but I would call it closer to common.

All opiates do that to me when taken in sufficient doses. When I was on methadone maintenence, I couldn't pee. They gave me a drug called Urecholine. It helped a little.
